Hello! My name is Pena Verde! I am from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. I started playing Capoeira over 20 years ago, when I was 15 years old, with Mestre Sabia, the coordinator of The Association of Ginga Mundo Capoeira.
I am proud to say that I have been teaching Capoeira for over a decade. I teach Capoeira to kids ages 2 all the way up through adult. Since moving to New York City, I have taught in a number of different k-8 schools, universities, and studios. These include the Co-Op School, Community Roots Charter School, Bronx International High School, Brooklyn Friends School, Bronx International High School, Pratt Institute, SUNY-Stony Brook, Sacred Studios and Fit 4 Dance.
I want to share with you that, for me, Capoeira is an art, a dance, a fight, culture, and education. It is rhythm. It is happiness. It is unity. It is resistance. And it is love. I also believe that Capoeira has been responsible for transforming the lives of people all over the world. It is for these reasons that Capoeira means so much to me and I look forward to sharing this art form with you! See you in class!
